Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO)

With the rapid development of the global market and international trade, it becomes critical for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to protect itself from counterfeit products that will compromise the safety and health of its people and environment.With the establishment of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), the authority has taken a better control on the quality and safety of products available in the market.

Notified by SASO

In line with the mission of SASO to elevate the standards and quality of products and services available locally, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is strictly monitoring the entry of consumer goods into their ports, ensuring that only products that meet the requirements of local regulations and international standards are allowed into the country.

GulfTIC Certification and GulfTIC IMQ is now officially a Notified Body of SASO authorized to do conformity assessments and issue Certificates of Conformity for regulated products entering UAE, KSA, and other GCC countries.

GulfTIC Certification and GulfTIC IMQ is also authorized by the government of Saudi Arabia to do evaluation of products for the COC.

THE CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY

  • A proof that the product has been approved by the Federal Government through SASO.
  • One of the documents required when clearing shipments from Ports and Customs Authorities.
  • Validity will depend on the route of certification applied for.
  • Authenticity of issued certificate can easily be checked on-line.

Certification Process

The length of certification process is 3 working days and involves the following steps

  • Link for application – to be sent as email notification.

Required documents

The following are the required documents to be sent by e-mail to GulfTIC IMQ:
  • Request for Certification.
  • Declaration of Conformity.
  • Shipment Invoice.
  • Test Report, as needed.
  • Other documents, as needed (e.g. Product Technical/Safety Data Sheet, ISO 9001 certificate of manufacturer, Laboratory accreditation certificate)

Payment of Fees

Fees are established by the Saudi Customs as follows:

The fees above cover documentary verification, shipment inspection and issuance of Certificate of Conformity. These do not include testing and sealing charges.

Conformity Assessment

Document Review
Technical experts review all the documents submitted in order to assess completeness and compliance of the product with the requirements as stated in the SASO Technical Regulation and applicable standards.

Inspection
Inspectors will visit the location of the shipment in order to verify the items declared in the shipment invoice and the conformance of the product labels to requirements.

Product Testing
In case of doubt or as the need arises, Inspectors may collect samples during the inspection and send to an independent laboratory for testing.

Corrective Action

Applicant will be notified of any findings that need immediate corrective action.

Issuance of Certificate

A Certificate of Conformity will be issued to product that has complied with the requirements.

Log-In

Apply for Service

  • Application form.
  • Industrial License.
  • Commercial registration of the establishment.
Note: Other requirements may be applicable prior to the product registration.

Payment of Fees

  • Application.
  • Initial Review of Technical Documents.
  • Initial Audit Fee.
  • Certification Review.
  • License to Use the Quality Mark.
  • Certificate Issuance.

Conformity Assessment

Document Review
Technical experts review all the documents submitted in order to assess completeness and compliance of the product with the requirements.

Factory Audit
Auditors visit the factory for initial assessment in order to ensure effective implementation of a Quality Management System and continuous compliance of product with the requirements.

Product Testing
Auditors may collect samples during the audit and subject to internal and/or independent laboratory testing as the need arises.

Corrective Action

Applicant will be notified of any findings that need immediate corrective action.

Issuance of Certificate

The certificate and license have validity period of 3 years.
